“As soon as you trust yourself, you will know how to live”. ~ Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
When I took a break from blogging I was often asked, “why aren’t you blogging?” When I took a break from styling I was often asked, “why aren’t you styling?” My answer was always the same, “I’m on break.” In a world of people consumed by the social media fanaticism and the constant need to know what other people are doing, it’s hard to take a moment to just be. If you’re a creative there’s the fear that if you’re not active you lose the interest of your supporters. There’s always someone willing to be out there 24/7. So, how do I balance all my jobs, a relationship, children, family, and friends? I trust myself enough to take breaks.
I learned to trust myself past my desires to succeed. What I mean is, if my body feels like it’s going to shut down, I shut down first. I take a moment to rest and reset. Over the years I’ve learned that I cannot be my best self if I’m on the edge of breaking down. Rest is not only necessary, it is essential to one’s success. Don’t be afraid to rest. Don’t be afraid to break free and live your experiences vs. only doing the things that will look cool on social media.
“You can either see yourself as a wave in the ocean or you can see yourself as the ocean.” ~ Oprah Winfrey
I can’t pretend that I’m better than the next person and I haven’t viewed something or someone on social media and said: “I want to try that.” It’s the power of influence, and let’s be honest, even the most influential person is influenced by someone else. Pulling inspiration from others is how we all survive. Imagine a world where you weren’t inspired by anyone…ever. Creativity is derived from inspiration, and being inspired by others makes us better creatives.
Although we are inspired by others, it does not discount the fact that we are still capable of becoming greater than our imaginations. Not only is creativity derived from inspiration, it is also driven by your spirit. Even when attempted, no one can copy another person’s spirit and determination (saw that on IG). So, put your absolute best out into the universe. Let it start from within, acknowledge the power of being inspired by others and before you know it you will see yourself blossom beyond being just a wave. You will become the entire ocean.
“You’re only given a little spark of madness. You mustn’t lose it.” ~ Robin Williams
It is imperative for each of us to be true to who we really are. Your little bit of magic can be just what someone else needs as proof that life can actually be worth living, a dream can become reality and if we don’t quit we can reach even the most outlandish goals. Most people think it takes lots of money and/or followers to become successful. All it really takes is a little bit of magic (spirit), a lot of genuine effort, super focus and hard work. Your magic is the key though. Remember your spirit is where your creativity and inspiration lives. So, in all your pursuits hold on to your magic. Protect it. Because even if you fail, you’ll never be able to quit; and if you don’t quit your magic lingers on.
“It’s okay to be scared. It’s okay to not know what’s next.” ~ Neki Bosh
There is no such thing as perfection. It’s just as okay to cry as it is to laugh. It’s ok to be scared and it’s okay to not know what’s next. That gives curiosity a chance. Whether you’re afraid as a kitten or you have the courage of a lion, you must live the life you’ve been given in honesty and truth. That may not always feel good, but it will always be right. Allow yourself to experience…the bad as well as the good. Just make sure to learn from it all. The best motivation for a grateful heart is the constant reminder that life could be/has been worse. You may not know what’s next, but you can be sure that if you are living in your truth whatever is around the corner will be good for you; and no matter what the corner holds you will be okay.
